Chemistry in NEET is 180 marks split across three very different sections. Most droppers have one section that's significantly weaker than the other two. The strategy is to identify that weak section early and fix it in the first three months โ€” not leave it as a late-revision patch job that never actually sticks.

The Three Sections and What They Demand

Organic Chemistry (Class 11 Ch 12-13, Class 12 Ch 10-16)

Organic accounts for roughly 30-35% of Chemistry marks. The most important thing to understand: NEET Organic is reaction-pattern based, not mechanism-deep. You need to know which reagents produce which products, common named reactions, and the properties of major functional groups. You do not need to draw full curved-arrow mechanisms (that's JEE).

Start with GOC (General Organic Chemistry) โ€” inductive effect, resonance, hyperconjugation, carbocation stability. Everything in Organic downstream depends on understanding GOC properly. Students who skip GOC end up unable to reason about new-format questions.

Inorganic Chemistry (Class 11 Ch 3-8, Class 12 Ch 4-9)

Inorganic is the most commonly neglected section by droppers โ€” and it's a significant mark source. P-Block Elements alone (Class 12, Chapter 7) gives 6-8 questions annually. D and F Block, Coordination Compounds, Chemical Bonding โ€” together these are 20-25 questions.

Inorganic requires memorisation, not derivation. The approach is pattern recognition: trends in the periodic table, specific anomalies, and named reactions. Flashcards and regular revision (every 2 weeks) are more effective than single long sessions for this section.

โš ๏ธ The Inorganic Skip Trap

Most droppers who score 100-110 in Chemistry could be scoring 140-150 if they fixed Inorganic. It feels less interesting than Organic, so it gets left for "later". Later never comes. Do Inorganic in months 2-4 systematically โ€” not as a last-minute cramming session.

Physical Chemistry (Class 11 Ch 1-2, 5-7; Class 12 Ch 1-3)

Physical Chemistry is the most numerical section. Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Solutions, Equilibrium, and Thermodynamics each give 3-6 questions that are mostly numerical. The pattern is consistent: the same types of calculations appear year after year with different numbers.

The Named Reaction Master List

Maintain a single running document of every named reaction in NCERT Organic: Aldol condensation, Cannizzaro, Clemmensen, Reimer-Tiemann, Kolbe, Williamson synthesis, etc. Add to it as you encounter each in chapters. Revise this list weekly in the last 4 months. Chemistry named reaction questions are completely predictable and essentially free marks once the list is learned.
